HOW TO PREPARE FOR NEET UG 2018? Exam Pattern & Study Tips



NEET UG Exam is one of the most competitive exams for Undergraduate Medical Entrance in India. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the exam to screen the candidates for admission to the MBBS and BDS seats. On the basis of the score attained by the candidates in NEET UG, they will get admission in the renowned Medical Colleges.

Before preparing for any competitive exam candidates should be aware of the basic details of the examination. Here are some NEET UG Exam details that can help aspirants to prepare for the examination.

Educational Qualifications for NEET UG 2018:

  • The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a Minimum Marks of 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Bio-technology at the Qualifying Examination.
  • The Marks criteria for the Candidates of the Reserved Category will be 40%. Further, for persons under locomotory disability of lower limbs, the Minimum Marks will be  45% General-PH and 40% Minimum Marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH are required.

Age criteria:

  • The candidate must have completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or complete the age on or before 31st December, 2017 i.e. the year of his/her admission to the 1st year MBBS./BDS Course.
  • The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission in MBBS/BDS seats shall be 25 years as on the date of examination with a relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category.

Number of attempts:

  • The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG) shall be limited to 3 uniformly for all the candidates.

Physics 45 180

Scheme of marking:

  • There are 180 Multiple-Choice Questions, with a time-limit of three hours.
  • 4 marks will be awarded for each correct response.
  • 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answers as negative marking.

1. Make a Proper Schedule for your preparations.

Following a casual approach cannot bring you success since a great degree of effort is required for clearing the exam. Therefore, follow a study plan and make a list of the items to be covered each day and make sure to complete each day’s target. Do not postpone for tomorrow.

2. Try to organise separate files for each subjects.

Once you have started Revision, try to organise separate files for each subjects, as this will ease your effort and save time.

3. Make brief notes for all subjects.

Make brief notes from your books, notes and essays to understand quickly, especially if you don’t like the subject or find it difficult.

4. Stay stress free & healthy while preparing for exams.

Do not sit in long stretch to study, after 3-4 hours take a break for 15 to 20 minutes and do something to refresh the mind for example: take a small walk, play something preferably an outdoor game, listen to music etc. It increases the concentration level and grasping capacity.

5. Refrain from using too many study resources.

Some candidates are under a wrong impression that if they access to a number of study material, greater are the chances of scoring high. But the reality is that it will create more confusion.

6. Practice Maximum Mock Test

Once you are done with preparing the topics, practice as much as you can both by conventional and online sources. Take as many tests as you can. Join test series and take mock tests. In addition to subject wise test also take the full length tests in the later course of preparation. This will help you gain confidence and increase your speed. Read the question and options very carefully while attending the Exam.
