NOTEImportant Question from AIIMS
See Explanation Here
Chromonema (plural chromonemata) is the chromosome thread. The zygotene (“paired thread”) period is marked by the lateral pairing, or synapsis, of homologous chromosomes, beginning at the chromosome tips. As the pairing process proceeds along the length of the chromosomes, it results in a precise chromomere-by-chromomere association. Synapsis is mediated by the synaptonemal complex, a protein structure that helps to hold the aligned homologous chromosomes together. Each pair of synapsed homologous chromosome is referred to as bivalent.
