Question
Shenton line is seen in which among the following?

A. HIP joint
B. Pelvis
C. Shoulder
D. Ankle joint

TIPSImportant Question from NEET PG

Answer : A. HIP joint
Explanation :

Shenton’s line is a curved line formed by the top of the obturator foramen and the inner side of the neck of the femur. Interruption of this line suggests an abnormally positioned femoral head.

  • In patients with fracture of neck of femur, the limb is externally rotated, abducted and shortened.
  • In inferior dislocation of  hip joint, the hip is abducted, externally rotated, and flexed at the time of injury.
  • In superior dislocation of  hip joint, the hip is abducted, externally rotated, and extended.
  • Hip dislocation should be reduced within 6 hours because delays in reduction correspond with a higher incidence of avascular necrosis.
